  1. G’day Elena,

I enjoyed the Streeton Trio concert performance at the ‘Q’ in Queanbeyan. Many thanks for your part in it.

Also, I read with considerable interest, your RSS posting: ‘For the Love of Music’. I note your mention of ‘the Bach Cello Suites’ in that item – I gather you haven’t done any recordings yourself of that work? If that is the case, which recordings you are inclined to recommend?

    Regards

    John

    • Hi John and thanks for your feedback! Sorry for the late response. No, I haven’t recorded the Bach Suites myself; my late teacher Boris Pergamenschikow has a beautiful recording, as does my current colleague in Freiburg, Jean-Guihen Queyras. Peter Wispelwey and Anner Bylsma are great choices for baroque cello, and of course if you want to go back to the grandfather of modern cellists who ‘rediscovered’ this music for the modern concert hall, there’s always Pablo Casals. His interpretation is just as much Casals as it is Bach, but knowing that, it is still very touching playing.

      • Pablo Casals is an obvious and well known option. However, I couldn’t help but be curious about other recording possibilities, from your perspective. Thank you for providing that! I look forward to familiarizing myself with their offerings. Regards
        John
